Catfish at 3 am? Late Night Dining Booms in B-N.

Night owls and third shifters in the Twin Cities were once relegated to unhealthy fast food or microwaved gas station snacks when post-9 pm hunger came calling. Late night dining options were essentially non-existent in Bloomington-Normal for years. However, the tide has turned recently thanks to a handful of local restaurants now catering to late night crowds.

In just the last two years, several eateries serving comfort food, soul food, breakfast fare, and more have launched to fill the late night and early morning dining void. There’s no longer a need to settle for subpar eats simply because it’s late. The increasing late night and early morning options are a welcome addition providing tasty and convenient around-the-clock nourishment.

Sao’s Late Night Eatery fully embraces the late night concept with their name. Open Wednesday through Sunday (with weekend hours as late – or early depending how you look at it – as 4 am) Sao’s slings homestyle favorites like catfish, mac and cheese, and their popular “henny” wings doused in sauce made with Hennessy. Don’t leave without trying the heavenly homemade banana pudding. Vegan diners are also well taken care of with a nice selection of vegan menu items.

For late-night chicken cravings, Pop Up Chicken Shop can’t be beat. Stop by between 8 pm and 11 pm Tuesday through Saturday to enjoy popup-only late-night exclusives. They also feature some of their favorite regular menu staples like tendos, wings and dill fries.

Froth & Fork puts a creative twist on late-night offerings. Hearty comfort foods like biscuits & gravy and Belgium waffles are available alongside classic bar fare like wings, wraps, and burgers. Open from 6 am to 1 am Sunday through Thursday and open an extra late night hour until 2 am on weekends, Froth & Fork bridges the gap perfectly between the late night and early riser crowds.

So the next time late night hunger strikes, remember you’ve got options! Support these local eateries keeping night owls well-fed in Bloomington-Normal.
